Using an abalone shell in cleansing rituals, incorporates all four of the earth's elements: the shell symbolizes water, the smoke symbolizes air, the unlit herbs symbolize earth & when lit they symbolize fire. Including the elements invites Mother Earth to be the focus. It is here, in the space created by Her, that transformations & manifestations have room to occur.
How to use: Light bundle, stick or loose leaves, wait about 30 seconds then blow out flames & put into abalone shell to collect any ashes or embers. To cleanse or bless a space, person or object, carry the abalone shell and fan the smoke through out the area. Put out or let smolder in the shell. Utilize whatever you are called to do or say while cleansing.
Caution: If the bundle, stick or loose leaves have been sitting lit in the abalone shell for a while, the bottom of the shell may get hot. Use caution when handling and leave it on a stand or heat resistant area, not directly on an unsafe surface.
